V/A - "Highway 61 Revisited Revisited" (2006)

(This is a re-post from a few weeks ago. I accidentally deleted the original post, so here it is again.)

Well that Beatles Revolver covers tribute anniversary thingamajiggy turned out to be pretty popular (142 downloads as of writing this), so here's a little something along the same lines. If there's any justice in the world this'll get at least twice as many download as it is at least twice as good.

This compilation was given away with Uncut Magazine in 2005 for the 40th anniversary of Highway 61 Revisited. Unlike the Revolver one this actually features people you've heard of. Highlights include's Marc Carroll's raging Tombstone Blues and American Music Club's Queen Jane Approximately.

Ebbot Lundberg's penis

I love finding out how people find their way to this blog.

My favorite one so far is someone in Oslo, Norway who earlier today googled (no I'm not shitting you) "pictures ebbot lundbergs penis". Click pic above for proof.

I don't want to know why, but for some reason I really really do.

UPDATE 09:22 PM: What the fuck? Literally dozens and dozens of Norwegians are heading towards this blog searching for Ebbot Lundberg and his penis. Apparently it all stems from this:

How come so many Norwegians even know about the televised discussion regarding Ebbot Lundberg's penis? Do all Norwegians watch the same stations and the same shows all the time? Is there only one TV channel in Norway? Or do all Norwegian media outlets report on Ebbot Lundberg's penis? Is there nothing else going on in the world (or indeed Norway) to report on?

V/A - "Revolver Reloaded" (2006)

This was all the rage on blogs when it came out about three and a half years ago. Yeah, I'm a bit slow. But I was digging around the old record collection today and I stumbled upon it and thought "Why not?".

For those who don't know, it's a compilation that was given away with Mojo Magazine in July 2006 for the 40th anniversary of The Beatles' Revolver and features fifteen artists covering one song each from the album. Each more obscure than the other. Seriously, I have no idea who these fucking people are. I'm familiar with The Handsome Family and Ed Harcourt, but the rest? Never heard of 'em. Before or since.

But I'm sure they're super famous in their own circles. I bet all those hip blogs that bore me to death have hyped at least half of them like nobody's business. Wouldn't surprise me if they've all played for tens of people (all the coolest ones) at SXSW and had someone from Twee Monthly finger them after the show. I bet they wear flannel and part their hair like Hitler and have done photoshoots with Will Oldham. One or two may have ironic moustaches and very tight pants.

Whoever the hell they are they sound good and do a fine job making these classics their own.

(zip) V/A - Revolver Reloaded (46 mb)

1. Catfish Haven - Taxman
2. The Handsome Family feat. The Rivet Gang - Eleanor Rigby
3. Neal Casal - I'm only sleeping
4. Sukilove - Love you to
5. Belarus - Here, there and everywhere
6. Chris Eckman - Yellow submarine
7. Mark Mulcahy - She said she said
8. Lampshade - Good day sunshine
9. Jim Reid - And your bird can sing
10. Michael Weston King - For no one
11. Luke Temple - Doctor Robert
12. Thea Gilmore - I want to tell you
13. Green Pyjamas - Got to get you into my life
14. Jason McNiff - Tomorrow never knows
15. Ed Harcourt - Rain (bonus track)

Keep dreaming

When you do themed mixes like I do you always run the risk of wanting to go back and change things. Most of the time I'm satisfied with the result, but occasionally I regret some of my choices in hindsight.

Like with this one, which consisted of songs with other artists' names in the titles. Why didn't I include Weezer's Buddy Holly, The Posies' Grant Hart or Led Zeppelin's Hats Off To (Roy) Harper, just to name a few? Unbelievable.

The collection of Dream Songs from February 1st has been annoying me for at least six months. What was I thinking when I left off The Posies, Jeff Buckley and Radiohead? Chances are I wasn't thinking at all. I should also have included Roger Whittaker's hilariously pompous morality tale I Dream A Dream, not to be confused with the song from Les Miserables.

And if I was so hellbent on including The Mamas & The Papas, why did I go with Dream A Little Dream of Me instead of the far superior California Dreaming? I must have been off my rocks completely.

So I went back (Spielberg/Lucas/Coppola-style) and re-did it from the ground up. Changed the order of the tracks and replaced the weaker ones.

You can still download the older version by following the links below, but there's no real reason. This is one is much better.

In praise of bob hund

Click here if you want to know more about bob hund, one of the best and more original bands to ever walk the earth. I am way too lazy, tired and drunk at the moment to go into it myself.

bob hund has a habit of covering songs in their native tongue Swedish and quite often injecting them with an energy the originals perhaps lacked.

Here we have them covering The Stooges (I Wanna Be Your Dog), Pere Ubu (The Final Solution), The Third Bardo (Five Years Ahead Of My Time) and The Velvet Underground (Guess I'm Falling In Love).

Enjoy!

(mp3) bob hund - Min lön kommer fem år försent (Third Bardo)

And as a little bonus I'll throw in a gig bob hund did in London on May 23rd 2001. A quite bizarre gig where frontman Thomas Öberg (Iggy Pop and David Yow rolled into one) spent most of the evening speaking Swedish. Sure there were a lot of Swedes in the audience that night, but you have to wonder how the limeys felt about it.

If the noise inbetween songs is anything to go by it appears they liked it though. I'm sure you will too - an hour of excellent, eccentric rock 'n' roll. I cannot stress how highly I recommend this.

Gubben i månen
