In our on-going series of fine compilations from overrated U.K. music mags, here's Mojo's tribute to Syd Barrett's first solo album The Madcap Laughs. From the March '10 issue, just in time for its 40th anniversary.
Not much else to say about it, really. It's good.

Thanks for this comp and a great blog
Yeah - got the Mojo issue and CD,but I live in a small flat and the CD got buried after one listen..so you've re-ignited my interest, and I'm gonna have a dig around and put it on the CD player. Cheers ;)
On a J Mascis trip today and found this compilation via Hype Machine. Thanks!
While The Madcap Laughs does not compare to anything done by Pink Floyd, the artistic potential of Syd Barrett is almost painful, the sense of his eternal reaching for more than he was capable of ... tormenting. Piper at the Gates of Dawn remains his true testament but I am glad that he is receiving some respect for this work.
