Boo!

A ghost is the soul or spirit of a deceased person, taken to be capable of appearing in visible form or otherwise manifesting itself to the living.

Descriptions of the apparition of ghosts vary widely: the mode of manifestation can range from an invisible presence to translucent or wispy shapes, to realistic, life-like visions.

Locomotives - "G.R.I.L.L." (1997)

This is the story of a Norwegian pop band called Locomotives.

And here the story ends. Because I know very little about them, and googling proved futile. I saw the video for the song Universe on MTV Europe's Alternative Nation in 1998 (damn, that was a good show... Toby Amies was the man). I liked the video, liked the song, and ordered the EP G.R.I.L.L. from a shitty online shopping site called Boxman (the company that would let you wait a month for a delivery and then tell you the product you wanted is out of stock). As unlikely as it was, G.R.I.L.L. arrived in the mail and turned out to be a rather pleasurable experience. Nothing earthshattering, but a good listen nonetheless.

Universe still managed to put a smile on my face (any songs that namedrops Madonna and Karl Marx in the same line is alright in my book), and the more mellow tracks Penthouse and You Can't Always Get What You Want have a lot to offer as well.

According to bandinfo.no Locomotives released an album called Spin in 1997, one called Albert in 1999 and another EP in 2001. I haven't been able to track them down, but I'd love to hear them one day. If you have any info on Locomotives and what they're up to these days, email me.

As long as I gets a little golden shower

Gold is a chemical element with the symbol "AU" and an atomic number of 79.

It has been a highly sought-after precious metal for coinage, jewelry, and other arts since the beginning of recorded history. The metal occurs as nuggets or grains in rocks, in veins and in alluvial deposits.

Gold is dense, soft, shiny and the most malleable and ductile pure metal known. Pure gold has a bright yellow color and luster traditionally considered attractive, which it maintains without oxidizing in air or water. Gold is one of the coinage metals and has served as a symbol of wealth and a store of value throughout history.

Gold standards have provided a basis for monetary policies. It also has been linked to a variety of symbolisms and ideologies.

Robert Johnson And Punchdrunks - "Feels Like Buzz Aldrin" (1996)

Remember back in '94 when Pulp Fiction came out and suddenly surf music became cool? Thanks to Quentin Tarantino including the likes of The Lively Ones, Dick Dale, The Centurions and The Impacts, this long lost genre that no one had cared about for 25 years was the shit for about a moment and a half.

Robert Johnson and his merry gang of roughnecks The Punchdrunks released this their second album two years later and got quite good reviews for what they themselves called "tropical exotic rock". Boxing enthusiast Johnson shows off his fascination with Muhammad Ali with tracks such as Ali Boom A Lay, and the album was recorded during something called "Rope-A-Dope sessions". Their third album, 1997's Aloha From Havana, had songs like Do The Punch and Thrilla In Manilla.

Feels Like Buzz Aldrin was recorded in mono with all the levels deep in the red. The distortion rips at your eardrums in some of the most ass-kicking intrumental rock 'n' roll ever recorded. It's sweaty, feverish, horny, violent, furious and ferocious. It's surf rock all coked up and with a thirst for blood.

Imagine four people losing their minds on a mezcal & tequila binge being so pissed off at their instruments they're trying to beat them to death while the tape's running.

Imagine the motion picture soundtrack to Tony Montana vs. James Bond.

Imagine the sound of Lux Interior and Larry Parypa taking turns buggering Link Wray behind a burning whorehouse in Shanghai.

Oh, what's in a name?

Women - the inspiration of all writers throughout the ages. Well, all male ones at least. Or most of them anyway. And some female writers too.

The list of songs with a girl's name in the title is almost endless and I couldn't possibly squeeze all my favorites into one mix, so Volume 2 will be posted some time in the future.

A real live lover, could have been a book

Last month I got a big ass package of dvds in the mail, today it was a box full of books.

There is something spectacularly satisfying about ordering tons of stuff that will take weeks to deliver, because when the shipment finally arrives at your door you've forgotten what it was you ordered, so it's like Christmas all over again! Only it's a gift you're paying for yourself.

This here ol' box 'o books set me back a cool €160, but goshdarn if it wasn't worth it. I'm giddy like a school girl, I don't know what to read first! Weeeeeeeeee!

PS. Yes, I prefer paperbacks. Always.

Psycho Sayid

So first we have Crazy Claire, now we get Psycho Sayid.

Lost is firmly shaping up to be my favorite TV show of all time. The X-Files held the #1 position for a long time before Six Feet Under conquered the title, but bugger me backwards on a blue buggy if Lost isn't inching itself closer and closer.

Locke/M.I.B. hitting full-on Colonel Kurtz mode, rallying up the dark troops for a rumble in the jungle? Fucking badass.

Available on Here Are The Sonics (1965)
