Merz' Britpop Extravaganza Vol. 3

As you may or may not recall, almost exactly a year ago I posted two compilation of 90s British music as a tribute to both Britpop and the excellent, legendary, immense, spectacular blog Mars Needs Guitars and its maker Merz.

In 2009 he shared dozen and dozens of songs from the wonderful Britpop era in a long, extensive, and impressive series of posts. As an hommage to a great man and a great scene I compiled two sets of these songs here. Volume two has been down for quite some time but is now up again, so do check that out.

Well, here's volume 3 - another 15 tracks Merz so carefully picked out for us.

For more Britpop you can always download some Blur here and some Oasis here. Or if you prefer newer stuff, you can find some Arctic Monkeys here.

(zip) Merz's Britpop Extravaganza Vol. 3 (83 mb)

1. Edward Hall - The Mill Hill Self Hate Club (1997)
2. Terry Hall - Forever J (1994)
3. Stephen Duffy - London girls (1995)
4. Heavy Stereo - Cartoon moon (1996)
5. Supergrass - Caught by the fuzz (1994)
6. Pulp - Lipgloss (1994)
7. Echobelly - Give her a gun (1994)
8. The Stone Roses - Begging you (1994)
9. Oasis - Wonderwall (1995)
10. Embrace - Come back to what you know (1998)
11. Super Furry Animals - Hometown unicorn (1996)
12. Saint Etienne - London belongs to me (1991)
13. Suede - Still life (1994)

The only good songs on Midlake's hideously overrated The Trials of Van Occupanther

You're welcome.

If you're not too familiar with Midlake, hearing these three fully adequate songs may inspire you to check out the rest of the album. Fight that urge. Trust me, totally not worth it.

(mp3) Midlake - Head home
(mp3) Midlake - Van Occupanther
(mp3) Midlake - Branches

Buy The Trials of Van Occupanther @ Amazon.com. Though you don't really have to now, as these three songs are all you need. Yes, I'm serious.
